Who are you?

Ever since I saw the first preview of the movie, Overcomer, I wanted to see it. I was ready. Pumped. The release month was etched in my mind. When the time came, everything under the sun prevented me from going to see it. I’m serious. Every time I planned to go, something came up. Sigh. I figured there was something in that movie that I really needed to see. I pressed my way through on the last day before it left all theaters within a 25-mile radius and I’m so glad I did. It was the middle of the day so I was the only person in the theater. So many important points came about that I pulled out my cell phone to take notes.

Now, I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t watched it yet, but I will tell you that I teared up quite a few times. You know…trying to hold back one of those UGLY cries. The movie was great and I really needed to see if. I’ll also say if you missed it, catch it on redbox or something!

Without spoiling it, here are a few important points I took away that I’d like to share with you:

  • One runner matters (Even if you’re the only person in the race (whatever your race is…you matter. Remember that Jesus would have died even if it was just for one person)
  • If asked who you are, what would you say? (Remember that your identity should not be tied to things, titles, or people. All of that can be stripped away)
  • Your identity will be tied to whatever you give your heart to. (Where do you spend your time, resources, and money?)
  • What are you allowing to define you?
  • When you find your identity in the One who created you, it will change your whole perspective.
  • The Creator gets to define His creation. (No one can define you but God!)
  • In reference to the last point, the principal shared that Ephesians 1 and 2 tell us who we are in God. I took the liberty of reading and journaling who the Bible says I am and I believe the same for you. When you get a moment, study it for yourself. :
    • I am blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly realms
    • I am loved by God
    • I am chosen by God
    • In God’s eyes I am holy and without fault
    • I am adopted by God
    • I belong to God
    • I am purchased by God
    • I am forgiven of my sins
    • I am united with Christ
    • I am part of God’s plan
    • I am saved by God
    • I am God’s own
    • I am alive in God
    • I am God’s masterpiece
    • I am near to God
    • I am full of God’s peace
    • I am a member of God’s family
    • I am a holy temple of God
    • I am God’s dwelling place.

My dear friend, you are God’s masterpiece and He loves you. No matter what is going on in your life, I pray that you hold on to these truths. In God’s eyes, you look pretty awesome to me. Be blessed!
