One Faith, One Lord, one Baptism. Ephesians 4:5
For one week in July, I was in the midst of saints at the P.A.W. (Pentecostal Assemblies of the World) Convention. I never said, “Praise the Lord” so much. I enjoyed every time I uttered those words and received endearing responses. It was amusing and heartwarming to see so many people from my St. Louis home church in Nashville for the convention. I made the comment, “Who is holding down the fort back home?”
Over the past ten years, I’ve been a vendor at various events (military bases, conventions, church functions, etc., but this atmosphere was different—refreshing, on one accord, and soul stirring. I loved it! Although I have a couple more events, I’m really looking forward to Vanessa Miller’s Christian Book Lovers Retreat in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the atmosphere is promised to be charged with an energy of high praise as it was last year.
Back to Nashville, I sold hundreds of books, surprisingly many to Suffragan bishops, district elders, and first ladies. I was touched and encouraged by fellow sisters and brothers in Christ as we prayed together, and exchanged information on how to grow our businesses.
Yes, being an author is a business. As a Christian author, it’s a ministry—and that was reinforced during the weeklong convention. I work for Jesus and my compensation is Him who will and does supply my every need.
I feel like my purpose has been revised—more of Jesus in my writings and less of Pat Simmons. How else can I say, “Praise the Lord!”
