Purposed Because I am God’s Image

Since a child, purpose had been a question in my mind. After experiencing much pain and disappointment, I began to doubt if there was any inside of me.

Raised by my dad, I was broken and confused. I smiled and did my best not to reveal what was really going on in my heart. Although my dad did his best to fill the void and assist me in overcoming life’s disappointments, I still wondered why I was even born.

As I grew older and accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, I would often hear God speaking to me, “Go and minister my truth.” Those words gave me anxiety, to say the least. I couldn’t see myself ministering to others because I didn’t believe in myself. I had taken on what others thought and said about me over the years.

Needless to say, I ran for some time. Yet, I continued to hear the same words.

One day, a few years ago, I was paralyzed by the words spoken by God through a minister. He said, “Why haven’t you obeyed God? He has called you, but you have not obeyed him.” Speechless, I began to cry. I had no excuse outside of the fact that I still didn’t fully believe I had purpose.

God then took me on a journey to understanding his “image.” He spoke Genesis 1:27. I read it and began to hear, “Take off the false image.” I continued studying what that exactly meant. I was amazed at what I found.

Image is the likeness; resemblance or shadow of a thing which represents the original.

God helped me understand that I am his image, and others opinion of me doesn’t negate that fact. I needed to take off the lies and deception spoken to me for so many years. I did just that. Through my discovery, my thoughts were transformed, and I learned that I indeed had purpose. Why? Because God placed it inside of me and only I could fulfill that purpose.

The same applies to you.  You too are God’s image. In order to be effective in ministry, entrepreneurship and your personal life, you must accept this truth and walk in it.

Three Reasons why understanding God’s image important.

  1. Authority – We have authority to overcome anything the enemy throws at us. We walk in the power of Christ. Our past cannot stop us.
  2. Purpose – We were born with a purpose to fulfill. There is an audience waiting on us to be obedient to the call.
  3. Value – No matter anyone has done or said, we all have value. The Bible records that we are “fearfully and wonderfully” made. We shouldn’t devalue ourselves nor allow others to do so.

Be blessed and walk in your true identity!
